what you are looking for is 1/2" x 9# flat expanded metal. you can get it in black steel and stainless steel and even aluminum. any local welding shop should have some in stock and will be able to cut it to size. the price will run you somewhere around 1.50 to 2.50 a square foot. If no luck there then go to McNichols.com and they have all sorts of expanded metal for sale and will even cut it to size for an extra fee.

What you are looking for (I believe) is "flattened expanded metal". You can get it on-line but the quantities may be prohibitive. Building supply stores should carry it or be able to get it or direct you to someone. Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

Try a steel supply place. It's called expanded metal and comes in different thicknesses and hole openings. I did mine with 3/4" cedar planks and am very happy with it.

Maybe consider clear acrylic top (lexan/Plexiglas) Check which product is less susceptible to UV damage ( I forget!!)
