We would like to sand and re-finish the wood floor in our summer house. Is this something that we do ourselves (fairly competant "do-it-yourself" folks in our late 50's) with a rented sander, or should we hire a professional?

My Wife just inherited, thru her mother, a vintage Model K Hamilton Beach Mixer, Chrome, and in excellent shape, amazing considering it is at least 50 years old. It is runnin rather slowly, and I checked, and noticed that the brushes are not totally worn, but almost there, and since there are two sets, I would like to replace them, and was also wondering if anybody knew the ratings of the resistors on the plate for the Speed control. I would like to replace these with modern ones, as the older ones are prone to failure and tons of heat. I would also like to see if there are available, the several addons, like Juicer, meat grinder, etc. Any Help is extremely appreciated. Thanks!!!

I've recently had a new boiler installed (not a combi) and have had the system sealed in my 2 bedroom flat. It has been losing pressure regularly which means the boiler doesn't start up when the gauge hits zero completely. They have tried putting a leak sealer into the system and changing the expansion vessel. Now, when the boiler is off the gauge sits at, or just above, zero. It now loses pressure every 5 days or so. I've been told that there is likely a leak in the pipework which is enclosed in a concrete floor. Could it be an alternative problem or I will have to have new pipework all through the property. Suggestions welcome! Thanks.

My daughter loads the dryer full and insists on doing all items including jeans on the delicate cycle. It is a gas dryer but it seems to me it would take longer, meaning more electricity, to dry a large load. Is this enough of a difference to be concerned about in terms of the gas/electric bill?

I have an "open ended" zipper (two pieces) on a jacket. Both pieces have fallen off, and I'm trying to put the pieces back on the jacket. They will slide back on, but they slide right back off. Does anyone know how to put both pieces on and have them stay on? I'm not sure if a piece broke off, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

I bought a house that has an alarm system in it. Come to find out, the modem is bad. They are telling me I have to pay $200 to get the whole box replaced. Surely, I shouldn't have to pay for the entire equipment when it's just one piece not working...

Are they trying to get over on me?
