I have a Zanussi Washer Dryer which cost about £350 3 years ago. Never had a problem with it and am so impressed that I have just got a Zanussi Dishwasher. Look online at Kelkoo or Compareprices.co.uk to find out who is the cheapest. You might find that they don't look at sale prices though. I would go to Curry's and then to Comet. If Currys are cheaper then Comet do a price match and knock a further 10%off. Worth a look round to save some money.

Hi,
I think the best thing to look out for when buying a washing machine is the 3 raitings from A-C.
Around 4 yrs ago I purchased an AAA rating "OCEAN" washing machine that I was told was made by Bosch, this has been an excellent washer, with loads of tricks like timer delay, 1600 spin etc... I purchased this from Currys for around £220.00 at the time the only other machines offering the same programmes were AEG, MEILE, & BOSCH all of which were around £200-£300 more.
Have you checked out the ARGOS sale, they have a HOOVER with a AAA rating washing machine that seems a good spec for under £300. This is the model number - Hoover HNL6166 White, I have found it even cheaper at Comet - check out price runner to compare prices.

Buy used! Unless you're in a position to buy another one every couple of years, go to a used dealer. Find a 10 to 15 year old direct drive Kenmore or whirlpool (same thing). Make sure it is not an ancient belt drive though. As far as I'm concerned, these are the best washers ever made. No computer chips, all the parts are still available, service men love to work on them, and they run for years without needing even a simple repair. If there is a problem you could probably fix it yourself.
Don't let the talk about repairs scare you. My opinion is that any model has a chance to break down. The question is what will it take to fix it. Even a simple repair on a new one is high dollar, so I believe in getting something simple. Truth is our Kenmore has run for 6 years with no problem and it wasn't new then.

I was advised by a washing machine repair man that Zanussi are about the best. He also said they are all designed down to a price rather than up to a level of quality these days, and have a life expectancy of about five years, so don't spend more than £300 on one.
Also don't buy any extended warranty.

Sears makes good washing machines you can also try Best Buy and Good Guys. However Sears has most of the name brands as well as Kenmore which is made by Sears They have a clearance store which is called Sears Outlet and they are priced down due to a scratch or something such as a dent. Look in your area to see if you have one.
