This morning, I had a shower and then went downstairs to the kitchen. There was water all over the worksurface, tops of the cupbards and you could see where it had dribbled down the fronts of the cupboard doors. I thought we had had a leak, but the ceiling above was dry, as were the walls. There was no way anyone could have got in and spilt water everywhere. Where on earth did it come from??!!

I am confused!!!!

The arms attached to the wing nuts are loose and seem to keep on turning, therefore I cannot tell whether the dampers are in shut position. I want to shut the dampers in order to save some heat from going into the attic. There is a screwdriver notch in the threaded stud into which the wing nut sits. Is the position of this notch any indication? Which direction open - which closed? Thanks!

I was interested in getting a cordless drill for my husband for Christmas since his fizzled out. It's just for home use. (He's not a carpenter or anything like that.) Anyway, can I get some opinions about drills you own or use whether they're great, good, bad awful. Also, do they all come with different sized drill bits? If not, can you buy any set of them? Are they interchangeable. Will the ones my husband had for his old drill fit any drill?? I'm looking to spend less than $100!!

Thanks for your advice!

My 22-year old home has two 220v electric outlets in the kitchen. One used to be for a wall double oven and the other for a cooktop range.

Long story short, the appliances died and I ended up buying a free-standing range. Because it's cable was a 4-prong, I changed the range cable to a 3 prong.

The problem is that one of the terminals on the cable doesn't fit the 220v outlet where I'm supposed to connect it.

When I looked at the 220v electric outlet where the double oven used to be connected, it seemed that the range cable would fit well (all 3 prongs), however, the range is too far to connect it.

My question... is it safe for non-professional electrician like me to turn off the brakers and try to swap the electric outlets? or should I leave that to the experts?

If I have to leave it for an expert, is it worth it to connect a 4-prong outlet for the range?

Thanks much.

I just moved into a new apartment and there are several cigarette burns on the carpet, is there an easy way to remove them without replacing the whole carpet? someone told me to try using a wire brush drill attachment to get them out. I tried it and it did ok but the carpet was still a little discolored so looking for a better method.

Preferably a brightly coloured smoke (red, orange, green, etc.) for finding leaks in pipes, duct work, etc. and tracing under ground burrows and leeds, etc.

I found a computer desk a couple of days ago in really good condition ... so I took it home and spray painted it black today to match my other furniture. I put it in my room, set my computer up on it, and threw out my old desk and everything, but now the paint is chipping and scratching off like crazy! Is there anyway to fix this??
