DW 40 is only a temporary fix, as it is thin in nature and will wear down, in time. Get some 3 IN 1 brand oil from your local hardware . This will be the last time you will have to oil it! This is also an excellent oil for lubricating locks, bicycle parts, and just about anything! For right now, just put a couple drops of vegetable oil on it until you have time to shop! Good luck!

Vaseline is some good stuff we use in a shipyard, DW-40, or engine oils, I think DW-40 is the best. We don't recommend the use of cooking oil because this may be attract some insects, Hope this help you. Have a nice day.

Close the door. Remove the pin. Use car wax and wax the pin, but not the top. Put pin back in. Works for a long time. Mine worked for several years without redoing.

wd-40 is more of a degreaser and rust remover,, use a teflon product like, Dupont's teflon multi-use lubricant!! it goes on liquid but dries to a powder,,,, it works great and lasts!!! watch the over run,, it will drip and leave a streak,, just wipe with a towel

actually i wouldn't use oil. if you do it'll attract a lot of dust and look nasty in no time. get a spray can of silicon and hit the hinges with that.

If you do not have oil, a wee bit of liquid dish washing soap works in a pinch till you get some.
