I was interested in getting a cordless drill for my husband for Christmas since his fizzled out. It's just for home use. (He's not a carpenter or anything like that.) Anyway, can I get some opinions about drills you own or use whether they're great, good, bad awful. Also, do they all come with different sized drill bits? If not, can you buy any set of them? Are they interchangeable. Will the ones my husband had for his old drill fit any drill?? I'm looking to spend less than $100!!

Thanks for your advice!

By far the best choice is "Rigid" which is the top of the line and provide a FULL charge to the batteries within 20-30 minutes.

The second choice is "Dewalt" which is a very strong and reliable drill but takes about 1-2 hours to charge the batteries.

The least expensive is "Ryobi" which is okay for a handyman at home but takes longer to charge, the battery life is not very long and it would not hold up to extended daily use. But for the price is an okay drill.

All of the above drills will either come in sets with other tools, such as saws, flashlights etc. And most of them come in a nice plastic case for easy storage.

Also most of them depending on the battery voltage can have 1 battery that will work with the other accessories of the same brand name. But make sure that you pay close attention to the battery voltage! Very important.

The 9.6 Volt systems are "NO GOOD"
The 12 Volt systems are okay for occasional "Home" use
The 18 Volt are the strongest for the price and can stand up to more frequent use.

Great gift idea...

I think I answered you once before on drills. Go to: harborfreight.com and request they send you a flyer or look through what they have online. I just looked through the lastest flyer, they have one with a light too and that is less than $20, they have one with a sander and that is less than $30, also includes a light. They are both 18 volt. I hve one and I have had it for a couple of years, I give it some hard use and still it lasts. An extra battery costs about the same as the drill with the battery, I was sorry I didn't just buy an extra drill and then have two batteries and a spare drill. They also have a little better model for $36.99. You can get extended warranties on the stuff too. I buy a lot from them. They also have professional grade tools.

There advertized now at different stores from 25.00 up.The one's to get would be 18volt -24volts.All drill bit's are the same unless he has 1/2inch bits. For just around the house and once in awhile use you dont need to spend that much. You can get a drill set at lowes or home depot to go with drill for around $40. And you will still not spend what you said. What ever you fell like he need's.Once in awhile use dont let someone talk you into a name brand

You can get a fairly deceit drill at Home Depot or Sears, Higher the Volts the better. You can get pack of different tools, But if he just needs drill I would go with just the one, SAMS in NC had a
19 volt for 39 bucks just one battery but a good deal. I would get name brand don't go with cheapo's, you get what you pay for.
Personally I like Ryobie or Home Dept brand, but get at least at 12 Volt for the power it has. Keep in mind if you have different volt or name brand each has its own charger, I try to stay with the same name brand and volt that way one charger will charge each battery. Hoe this helps, Have great Turkey day

We can offer you another try. When a cordless drill battery pack no longer holds a charge you can shock it with some voltage source more than 12V. Two car batteries will make up 24V. Connect the cables from the car battery to the Bosch battery. Do it securely: negative to negative, then positive to positive....

hi frankly i use a regular drill . but if your hubby is going to use it for hobby or home use try to get one with features like reversible drill, option to hold screw driver bits / smaller spanner , masonry drill bit and variable speed , knife sharpening option . they will be use full in daily use and expand the uses for your gift. ( avoid buying as seen on tv stuff and consult your local shop / handy man ) i have bought and gifted one for my friend at less than 100 $ last year
