My plumber asked me to check the water to see if the central heating system needed a powerflush.

You can buy a testing kit from a good plumbers merchant, they come with instructions which are easy to follow. You may need to consider why the plumber has asked you to do this yourself, a good plumber will carry out the test (it only takes a few minutes) and give you the results. Powerflushing is very expensive but it does have beneficial results on heating systems that have had no chemical inhibitor added. You can get equally good results by adding a flushing chemical and then an inhibiting chemical, but only get this done by someone who is qualified.

Water in a heating system, is usually of poor condition, simply because it has no way of getting out of the sealed unit system and getting to the gym
