Probably the thermocouple has failed, OR the engineer adjusted the pilot flame and left it too low, then when the mian burner kicks in the pilot drops a bit and the tip cools and cuts off the main gas.

Get them back to look at it.

Our Potterton does this when the burner has got partially bunged up with soot and the pilot light is smaller. We're alerted when it gets blown out in the winter only when wind travels down our sideway in a certain direction. Did you see the engineer do any dismantling and raking out of solidified soot when he did the safety check? The contractors vary so much in how well they clean the burner.

Is he Corgi registered? His number will appear on the safety certificate. We checked the engineer on the Corgi website who had done this work at our son's uni. house and he was fraudulent.

You'll be needing to book another call out but in the meantime a pack of two basic carbon monoxide detector cards is available very cheaply from the superstores to put your mind at rest about the safety issue. We have one on the room wall and one right next to the boiler. It changes colour if there are any fumes.

A friend of mine had a similar problem and the engineer who serviced this particular boiler said that it does sometimes happen that spiders make cobwebs in the flue and that can cause a malfunction, because that can have an effect on the operational pressure switches. Ask your engineer to check the flue as well. Hope you get it sorted soon before the cold winter.

If the thermocouple is in the pilot jet while lit yet nonetheless is going out it ought to be that the different end of the thermocouple isn't seated properly in the gas valve. it relatively is ordinary fantastically if utilising a time-honored couple to omit-seat the valve end. carry onto the thermocouple on the brink of the gas valve and gently pull it out and in - if there is even the slightest stream you may desire to refit it. Undo the nut, line up the tip (lower back) and do the nut lower back up. it may additionally be that the gas valve end only needs to be 'nipped up' somewhat if loose. that's greater beneficial than unlikely that a thermocouple could fail in the way you describe, if it relatively is been working large earlier it is going to nonetheless be ok now. stable success with it.

Probably the pilot light blowing out ( if your model has one), if it has been very windy. And the thermocouple can distort over a period of time, which causes it not to function as it should. As other remedies - get a man! Preferably qualified, as modern machinery does not lend itself to "have a go" types.

I would guess that you gas pressure on the pilot light has been adjusted too low. Get the guy back and tell him you have had this problem since he worked on it.
