You most probably have two moytorised valves in your system and these are likely to be located in you airing cupboard. They are used when you press the programmer for heating or hot water. One of them is on the central heating pipes and the other one is on the domestic hot water pipe. If they are faulty then they stay in the cold position (off) and are not responding when you need hot water. To check the valve, put the hot water on and wait until the pipe is hot and see if the pipe on both sides of the vale are hot. If they are then the fault must be elsewhere. If you have a storage tank in the attic, check that it has water in it . this will be a large tank. Hope it helps.

Have you got the dial set properly. On our system we can just have the radiators on without hot water to the taps. Or we can have both.

Because they are on a seperate circuit.
Think about it, you wouldnt want to drink the same water that is pumped around your radiators!
Your boiler may not be working.

As previous answer, your central heating and hot water are on different pipe systems. How do you heat your hot water, immersion heater, boiler? If boiler, what type?

it could be your gate valves not working proper its job is to allow both hot water and heating together or water only sounds like its stuck in one position normally located near heating pump

you may not have your programmer set to give you hot water or on your hot water tank you may have a thermostat that is set to low, hard to say as you have not told us much about your system.
