What do Chemlawn and other lawn care companies do to your lawn that can't be done yourself? With products from Home Depot Lowe's etc?

If I want to erect 6ft fence (or the maximum legal limit), how will it work if my patio is raised? Do I measure from the patio up? With the garden, as the ground is lower, do I take my measurement from that? I have no problem with the height staggered, as long as ol' nosey next door cant see in and I need to get it right coz shes a right "do it by the book" kinda pain in backside. Plus I'm looking forward to asking her to remove that DREADFUL ivy thats climbed over my fence and eating into my wall!!!!

I have ornamental grass in my landscaping. A friend of mine told me that I was supposed to cut it back when it died before winter, but I never did. Will it grow back even though I didnt cut it? Will it help to cut it now?

I'd like to plant a flower border around my house but don't like to be outside when it gets hot. What are some good flowers I can plant that don't need much upkeep and can survive in very hot, dry Southern summer weather?

Hey!
We have a big maple tree in my backyard that the squirrels have been destroying. They chew the bark (to sharpen teeth) to such a degree that large branches are dying off. We only started having this problem within the last year or so. Squirrels have lived all around us for a lot longer than that. We already have traps out to catch them and release them elsewhere, but the tree is still losing large branches! Are there other non-toxic remedies (by the way, we cant kill them!)?

I can rent one for next to nothing and I have had gophers at work all winter long...my front lawn needs leveling; but, perhaps time and the spring rains will do the job. Thanks for you help, in advance.

Hi, I have neighbors on all three sides of my yard without any privacy barriers.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good hedges (Or tree or bush) that provide good privacy in the yard. I'm looking for something that is inexpensive, as I will need many, and something that grows immensely fast with little care. Also preferably something that doesn't exceed 20 feet as I have power lines dangling over my yard. Please don't post any answers that don't fit into this criteria. Thanks.

I would really like a cherry blossom tree...(the kind that don't produce cherrys, just the flowers) but I don't know if they even grow in Reno, Nevada and if it's possible to grow them in a larg pot indoors. Any gardening tips?

BUGS!I don't want to use chemicals because my kids often just pick and eat right out of the garden- Any safe suggestions? Slugs and some type of bright red ant looking insect seem to be my main problems!

I bought a hardy banana tree a while back. Supposed to be winter proof down to -20 deg.

I kept it inside for a year or so to avoid winter dormacy, and let it grow a little extra.

Come spring, there were all these little (I mean TINY -sand grain size) tan bugs all over the leaves. I bought some plant bug killer spray, and it worked. Then about a month later, it slowly started to brown and slow down growing. Eventually it died altogether.

I tried everything, transplanting to a bigger pot, different soils, soil aerator, more water- less, more sun- less. I even planted it outside thinking the humidity might be the prob. nothing worked. Even the plant lady at the local nursery was baffled.
