Grass (and any other plant for that matter) needs water, sunlight, and nutrients. The only way you are ever going to kill it forever is to deprive your lawn area of one or more of these things. All poison (even plutonium, which is the most deadly thing on the planet) works for only a certain period of time. When the time is up, grass and weeds will return.

My suggestion is to plant a bunch of trees that will grow so the canopy completely shades the ground. If you've ever walked in a deep woods there is no grass. The ground is usually bare.

That will not ever happen. You can kill it temporarily, but it will never go away completely. Weeds were created to fill in empty space in the soil, so even if you kill the grass, something will still grow there. If all you want is bare dirt, you're going to have to work at it all the time. If you just want something else to grow, and no grass, plant something aggressive like jasmine as a ground cover.

thats a strange request most people are asking how to keep or get their grass back.

there are several insects and animals that you can introduce to your yard that will kill off/eat your grass but your neighbors might not like that idea since when they finish with your yard they will go elsewhere..

the other thing you can do is til the soil and weed block it after applying a broad based weed killer over the area. Leave the weed block down for a month or so and you should be good to go.

You've got to put down some yard fabric and put rocks on top of it if you don't want grass.

Noxall is the most powerful grass/weed killer that I know of if you just want to have a dirt yard.

The only way is to pour concrete over the top and turn it into patio.
