I would like to know how to process pecans once they have fallen off the tree. I've had this tree for about 11 years and it finally gave us the first pecans last fall / winter. When we tried to open them, the nut would stick to the shell and came out in tiny pieces. I wonder if there is a process, such as heating them or something, to make the nut come out in one piece. Some people told me to put them in the sun for several days before cracking them open, but it wasn't as effective as I thought it would be. Can anybody help? Thanks.

I didn't see the plant when it was alive (dead now its winter), just a couple of dried stalks left in garden but lots of see-through skeletonlike papery lantern all over the place with flaky sort of seeds in them. A few shriveled leaves that are left look sort of fuzzy with serrated edges. Couldn't tell you if there had been any sort of fruit or berry inside the lanterns while they were still on the bush. I think it comes up every year though i didn't plant it...

i was wondering whether it was better to water plants in the morning or in the evening, or whether it makes a difference. i was thinking that it did not matter what time of day you watered them, because they're still getting the same amount of water in 24 hours.
thanks for your input!

We have a plant but it has not bloomed before. We think we may have buds but not sure. It is not a new leaf but different growth coming off a leaf.

I have had this Flamingo Plant for 5 years and never had trouble with it before. Its still blooming, just finished a bloom last week, infact. But every so often one leaf starts yellowing and eventually the stem yellows until it falls off. It is a 10" pot with a self watering system so i add water about every 2 weeks. The water is well water. I haven't fertilized in at least 7 months and it sits in a northfacing window catching a little morning light from the east. I spin the plant every time I water it so the whole plant gets some sun. I can't figure it out and don't know what else to do. I only has 9 leaves left; 3 on each base stem. Does anyone know what is wrong? What I could do to fix the problem?

My house has a driveway made up of big 8-to-10-foot square concrete slabs. Between these big "tiles" of concrete, weeds like to grow (of course). I know a weed-killer like Round-Up is obviously one solution to dealing with them, but that seems to be a solution you have to keep doing repeatedly, every season or whatever.

My question is, is there a more permanent way to prevent weeds from ever growing between the slabs - like filling the seams, or would that, for some reason, be a bad idea or look like crap? Should they be left as they are so that the driveway has room to expand and shift? What product would I buy to fill the seams?

I just planted 8 dwarf crapemyrtles (Raspberry Dazzle) around my house. Seven of them are doing well, but one has several leaves turning yellow. They all get (more or less) the same amounts of water and sun, and they are planted in the same type of soil. Any thoughts on why that one isn't doing well. And, how do I save it?

One piece of extra information, the leaves on that one were smaller and more bunched up when I bought it. I was nice and green though, so I didn't think anything about it. It has been in the ground about 2 weeks.
