I just planted 8 dwarf crapemyrtles (Raspberry Dazzle) around my house. Seven of them are doing well, but one has several leaves turning yellow. They all get (more or less) the same amounts of water and sun, and they are planted in the same type of soil. Any thoughts on why that one isn't doing well. And, how do I save it?

One piece of extra information, the leaves on that one were smaller and more bunched up when I bought it. I was nice and green though, so I didn't think anything about it. It has been in the ground about 2 weeks.

It sounds like it had a water deficiency when you bought it. Just give it a little time. I've had two of these for a few years and they're very resilient. If they get too dry, almost like they're dead, you can just water as usual - don't go overboard and over water - and it will rebound. You should see new growth in 7-10 days.

Your problem may simply be due to leaving an air pocket in the soil when planting--you would know better than anyone if that were the case. Just keep watering, and check for pests at sunrise, noon and sunset just to be on the safe side. If you feel the plant needs a litlte mulch to stay damp, then by all means mulch it.

Two weeks is not a lot of time to assess problems.

Leaves were smaller and bunched up might mean root knot nematodes. Might also mean damage in nursery due to overspray of chemicals. Yellowing leaves is a sign of too much/too little moisture.

If you purchased from a local nursery and still have your receipt, take it back- trade it out.

The other thing would be to get in touch with your local agriculture extension service agent. They should have a staff of master gardeners available to help you thru this problem.
