Well, two of the answerer's are intelligent, and work in part!
What will really work is a clarifying LIGHT.
The pump pumps the water from the pond through the light. The U.V. rays kill the algae, then the water pumps from the light to the filter where the dead algae is trapped., Clean water is pumped into the pond. You will have to change your filter daily for a week or so,after that your pond will be so clean you can see bottom. ALSO, don't worry about the string algae, the fish like it.

The best thing to clear this is the use of plants. Try planting any type of MINT near the edge of the pond. It will grow into the pond and the roots will keep the water clear. Other plants that grow in the pond help too. Also you can try putting in what you already did, but you have to TURN OFF the filter, and let it sit to work. While waiting, take out the filter and clean it really good, let the algicide sit in the calm pond for 48 hours, then put the filter back. If you use the filter while you treat the water, the stuff is caught in the filter and never circulates in the pond

I use a barley pad. You can buy them is 3-packs from Petsmart or Petco in the pond section. Usually have to replace them every 2-3 weeks. But they work wonderfully.
