i was wondering whether it was better to water plants in the morning or in the evening, or whether it makes a difference. i was thinking that it did not matter what time of day you watered them, because they're still getting the same amount of water in 24 hours.
thanks for your input!

The fact of the matter is this...too much water and you'll contribute to disease...fungii and bacterium...too little water and you'll contribute to poor plant growth and weaknesses and ultimately disease. The trick is to water just enough. Now the caveat...when? It depends on where you live. If your days are extremely hot and dry then morning and afternoon might work. If your days are hot and humid then maybe just morning will work. If not so hot then maybe during the day. Be very careful about watering at night of evenings though ...fungi's can grow almost overnight and they thrive in moist areas...ie..after a rain you see a lot of mushrooms.
From an experts opinion (Professional Landscape Consultant) watering and allowing some dry out after wards is the best watering schedule. Most plants benefit greatly from deep watering rather then a light sprinkling also. Deep well developed root systems will prevent excessive wilt during really hot and dry spells. Obviously the plant type determines the volume of water needed also. Hence there exists desert plants and boggy plants. Research your plants and determine how much water they like and then provide it to ensure healthy vigorously growing plants. Good luck.

I have heard that if you water in the evening you can get mold on your plants. Sometimes I just don't have time to water in the morning so I water at night and I haven't had a mold problem.

Definitely in the morning. If you water in the evening, just like grass, mold can get on them. Also, don't water during the day because the sun can burn them up.

I water in the morning and then in the evening. It's been so hot where I am that they wilt during the day if I don't water them at least twice during the day.

water at night. The higher amount of moisture in the air will keep your plants moist longer. You will use less water, and your plants will do much better!
