Cosmos are awesome! They come in a wide range of colors, bloom from May to late fall, do extremely well in full, hot sun with minimal water, and have beautifully wide blooms with ferny foliage. They will also reseed freely so you'll have a new batch the following year.

Here's a quote from a Web site about Cosmos: "Cosmos grows best in the worst conditions Texas has to offer -- hot and dry. This is why cosmos is the best possible annual for Texas."

grow sedum
they are succulants and bloom and spread
they come in many varieties and like to grow in all types of soil yet thrive in rocky soil
check out the website i attached
the second link is a direct link to a garden already existing in Texas
depending on your location in Texas you are in zone 7, 8 or 9 possibly zone 6 if you are in the panhandle so check the flowering plants for the hardiness and you should be set

verbena, moss rose portulaca, purslane, any cactus or succulent, hibiscus (or any tropical), banana tree, forsythia. I have all this at my house plus more that has partial shade. I see a lot of people in my neighborhood with mandevilla, crepe myrtle, wisteria, and oleander. I used to have some vinca and some cockscomb. My mom has loads of lantana and pride of barbados. We just bought some sweet memory (purple and white) from Home depot yesterday. Sage and purple heather should work well. If you have deer, watch what you buy; my hibiscus are all gone but my oleanders look great and they are mixed together.

Lantana and verbena are good, as are ice plants and other succulents. Your best bet is to find your local university extension office and ask them. They can give you a list of plants to fit your needs. You can probably find them with a Search online, as well as by using the Master Gardener keyword.
