I have a flat that covers 2 levels, there are floorboards upstairs and downstairs but the stairs are concrete. Could i attach a wood covering to them or has anyone got a better suggestion of what to do with these dangerous steep stairs?

I am buying a house and the den has wooden paneling up. I don't necessarily want to rip it out and start all over at this point, but I would like to do something with it that would brighten the den up. Any suggestions?

I have a 4 bed family-type home that i am re-decorating. The family bathroom has the airing cupboard and hot water tank in it. We are due to replace the whole bathroom suite but wondered whether it would be worth getting rid of the tank, getting a combi boiler and having a seperate shower cubicle? Is having a shower over the bath off putting to family buyers? I haven't got a family so would appreciate the comments. I am wondering whether it will be worth all the mess etc.?

What is the best way to lay tile so that you minimise the number of unsightly "edge-on" tiles overall?

To elaborate:

I have some 40cm, fairly thickish ceramic tile. Brown marble-effect surface, white "side profile" (i.e. looking at the tile edge-on).

To me, it seems inevitable that some of it (around the angles of the bathroom, etc), is going to show "edge on", thus exposing the white side profile of the tile.

But.

I have seen tiling jobs (e.g. in hotel bathrooms, etc.) where this appears to have been concealed somehow - the join at the angles is "seamless", and the tile edge cannot be seen (and only the faintest, thinnest line of grout can be seen.)

How do I achieve something like that?

Did they bevel or angle the join, or was it just black magic, lol?

We live in an apartment (no kids, just my brother, my boyfriend, me and the puppy) and I just can't think of anywhere to hang the stockings. Our living room (where I want to hang them) is soo crowded. We have two couches that make an L and one has a wall behind it but it taken by a piece of art. One wall is pretty much entirely covered by glass leading out to our balcony, and the last wall has our long entertainment center on it and our TV (with art on the walls to the side). I was going to get those stoocking hangers and line them across the entertainment center, but, that where we decided to put the nativity! It would look horrible to have a snowman and santa stocking hanger poking into the nativity. There are also no real doorways that I could hang them. I'm in a bind. Please help me out :) I'm looking for a good creative classy idea Thanks

Since living in my apartment I have had a hard time waking up everyday, and im usually very tired. I just realized that I have a huge Electrical pole with tons of wires right outside my 3rd floor bedroom windows. What can I do with Feng Shui, to deflect all that electricity coming into my room? *No sarcastic answers please*

Hi I recently sanded my dining room floor and experience a number of problems. Firstly half of the rooms floorboards were rotten so we had to replace them with new ones that are a completely different colour to the old ones. And secondly we varnished the boards in a clear dulux varnish that has no replaced the dirt so our boards look permanently dirty. The room has been decorated so i want to avoid sanding again at all cost - any ideas. By the way the rest of the house is real hardwood flooring and i was considering putting that down but when i realised that it would involve the skirting boards being move i had second thoughts - Any ideas?

I need to know if, first of all, it is okay to use a cedar chest in a livingroom instead of like a coffee table, or would that look strange? Also, does anybody know where a good place is to buy lower priced trunks or ottomans for like decoration, in place of coffee tables? Thank you so much! I have checked like Crate and Barrel and those kind of stores and they are way more than I want to spend. I like that style of furniture, etc. it is just way more than I ever want to spend or can afford! Thank you!

I have a fake palm tree (a really nice one), that use to be in my living room. I replaced it with a bigger fake tree and now I don't know what to do with the palm, so I put it in a corner by my kitchen table. Is that weird? It looks okay, but I've never really seen anyone do that before. Just wondering.

I am moving to a smaller room, and there will be not enough space for a full bed.
I am looking for good quality, comfyness, and good price, but don't mind paying more if it's worth it.
Please if someone can direct me to online stores, and tell me which one should I decide on buying?

Thanks

We just brought a home. It has a brand new apartment which we are living in while we work on the rest of the house that we plan on living in.
We need but already have new appliances for our kitchen, new counters, a new toilet and sink in the bathroom, installation in the open walls in the spare bedroom, new front door, updated electric and to finish the basement(wall, electric flooring) and then painting. We are not in a rush we are ok with out a teneant for a few months. So my question is how do we prioritize what gets done first.Do we demo everything that goes first or work room by room? Any good web sites we can refer to for simple explanations? I have major back injury how can I help my husband without hurting myself?
Thanks for the help

We are moving into a 3 bedroom apartment. The third bedroom which is really big has to be divided into half so that everyone can have their own room in my apartment. So can someone please give me ideas? I have an idea about a room divider such as this http://www.amazon.com/Panel-Screen-Divider-Cherry-Finish/dp/B0000YS93Q/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1195167215&sr=1-11
But will it hold and not tip over with just a small push? And how does it stay connected to the wall without falling . Can someone describe the item to me? And also please can someone give me ideas on how to divide a big room completly in half?
