Usually the glass is frosted so you cant see in or out. Its just to let in more light. Makes it easier to get super clean and not stink and not offend people and dont use Irish Spring you can smell that crap a mile away.

Windows in the shower stall help to let the steam out of the room from the shower. If you don't have proper ventilation the paint on your walls and ceiling will begin to blister and flake. You should always crack the window just a little to let the steam escape in order to prevent this damage to your walls and ceiling.

Because with shower doors or curtains, the shower can be a darker area and alot of the waterproof lights that are installed don't work well.

Originally, it was for light. New codes require an exhaust fan in the bathroom if there is not a window that opens in the room. It is for moisture control.
