I need to know if, first of all, it is okay to use a cedar chest in a livingroom instead of like a coffee table, or would that look strange? Also, does anybody know where a good place is to buy lower priced trunks or ottomans for like decoration, in place of coffee tables? Thank you so much! I have checked like Crate and Barrel and those kind of stores and they are way more than I want to spend. I like that style of furniture, etc. it is just way more than I ever want to spend or can afford! Thank you!

First of all I agree about Janis Joplin. Yes it is okay to use the cedar chest in the living room. I would put a runner on it to protect the finish though. And I find Goodwill a good place to buy the stuff you are looking for or thrift stores or salvation army .good luck

Have never owned a coffee table. Have used my great-grandmother's cedar chest; bench; antique tool chest; a doll-baby bed (used a board over the rails while using the bed for collectible toys). I love to visit Goodwill Stores; second hand shops and flea markets. Lots of usable "junk" which become part of the family. Mixing is good. The memories through the years are so comforting when recalling the lean years, the family and friends.....who ask...how did you do that or where did that idea come from....Also, many furniture stores have decorative items to enhance the displays. These also are for sale and sometimes are very reasonable. I favor old things for I know they have a story to tell. I move furniture and "special finds" from room to room, changing the look, the use and keeps visitors, family on their toes.

Don't know where you are but, Hobby Lobby has lots of fun trunks and chests and about every3 months has a half-price sale! re the cedar chest...why not? It reflects your personality. Just be sure to have some coaster handy so the top doesn't get ruined. Have fun decorating!

I actually have that Santa Fe trunk table in my own living room. I love it. It's full of movies. Only problem is you have to clear everything off of the top to get something out of it.
