I'm having a window removed from my kitchen above my sink and would love to replace it with a cabinet/plate rack sort of unit (if you watch Fresh Prince of Bel Air re-runs there's one in their kitchen). Problem is, the space is 3.5 feet wide and I can't find a plate rack/shelf in conventional sizes anywhere, let alone a custom size. I did find one at IKEA.com but it's only 30" wide. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money because I'm already just about tapped out with my current home renovations.

I have a house share and only have one room to myself. Can any of you innovative people think of the best way to make the small place more cosy and homely with simple touches?

many thanks

Hey guys. I'm getting charged $10,000 for doing laminate flooring on a one story 1500 sq. ft. house all throughout. Is that a good deal or am I getting overcharged. This includes everything. Thanks

I want to put a fire pole in a section of my house so I can slide from my second story to my first floor. One question though, where the heck can you get one?

Im thirteen, and I am going to redo my room.
I want to make it a little vintage-y looking but not anything too old like my granma's living room. haha.
im thinking about doing it it a light pink, maybe to make it a little bit more modern then i should do darker pink vertical stripes.
my room isnt that big so i dont want to do anything that would make it look too crowded.
so if you have any ideas for decorationg or any websites i can go to for bedding that would be really great.
thank you so much!!

I mean on the walls. I know they are big but would they make my small bathroom look bigger? Isn't that what most new houses are using?

The floors are light wood and there is a hunter green tile FP (which I will remodel at a later date, but have to make it work for now)
I do not want to choose colors that will look bad with the red. The FP is NOT on the accent wall(that would look like Christmas!)

Hi. Me and my husband just bought a vacation home in SW Florida (Ft. Meyers area). Anyway, we also have 2 kids - 7 year old girl and 3 year old boy. The house is only 2 bedrooms, so the kids will be sharing a room when we go.

Need help with some decorating ideas. Do you like the idea of blue/white flowery comforter set for daughter and blue/white stripes for son? Or maybe just bright colors - like bright pink and green? Not sure what direction to go. Any help?

BTW, the furniture is like a white distressed wood. Thank you!!

My tubs finish is awful and trying to decide which way to go, buy a new one or have it reglazed. My house was built in the 50s so I'm assuming it's cast iron.

I was told I could just use a good adhesive since I am laying the tile on a new subfloor. Then just grout between the tiles. I don't want to take a shortcut if it costs quality.

A poor finish with the wrong type of sealant; I want to use bathroom/kitchen sealant and not the outdoor uPVC silicone sealant. Problem is, its been put onto the ceiling (my a bodger) and emulsion / water-based paints won't help.

I have heard of some sort of little plastic things, but I don't know what they're called and where to find them. Basically, I am about to move my dinette set in the kitchen on the linoleum. There are four parsons chairs and each of the chair legs have a little hard black thing on the bottom. I think it's a little black circle. The base of the table is stone (or that heavy material) and I want to make sure the floor doesn't get damaged.

What can I buy and where do I get it from? Also, are there any other alternatives other than buying a 5x8 rug?

We just pulled up some kind of tile in our bedroom that had a cardboard type underlayment and under that were thousands of nails nailed into the hardwood floors. Is that how people put down those tiles in the 70's or 80's? What can I do with the 1/4" holes that were left when we pulled the nails out? I can't beleive someone would ruin floors like that!

Currently, my walls are white & beautiful. I would like to paint the walls because white feels temporary. However, I am not painting the ajoining hallway or kitchen... just the living room. I don't want to use an off-white color because I don't think it will look right with 2 connected white rooms. I need a color. My other furniture is burnt red (2 chairs) and green (2 chairs). I have not purchased any wood furniture and would love your input on that as well. Thanks.

Do I have to sand the floors after or just sweep and POLISH? Please help!

The walls in the kitchen are like a tan/sand color and the living room walls are like a pine green color. The master bedroom is maroon. We're trying to sell the house. We could change the pine and maroon colors too I suppose, but just to do the kitchen cabinets, what color would you recommend? Right now they're white, and I hate to go white again because they show everything. If it helps, the kitchen floor is tan/brown hard tile.

What would you consider to be a standard price per linear foot for curtain rods?
You can give a general answer or break it down between wood/metal/plastic.
Thank you.
