I mean on the walls. I know they are big but would they make my small bathroom look bigger? Isn't that what most new houses are using?

no, go with 18 X 18 or above... and lay them on the diagonal... (at a 45 degree to the walls)... the larger tile on an angle make the bathroom look bigger... get some and lay them down to check it out

Thats a humongous tile. If it were me, I wouldn't. And I definitely wouldn't go with an 18"x18" tile. I would more worry about the look and texture. I prefer anywhere from a 1"x1" to 6"x6" for a wall tile. Any bigger than that for a bathroom and it is starting to look oversized for the room and can even make the room look smaller due to seeing partial tiles. I'd save the bigger tiles for the floor and use 6"x6" or smaller for the walls. Look in many of the decorating magazines. You won't see big tiles on a bathroom wall. For some larger bathrooms you might see it done, but normally they are ran from the floor to ceiling with a marble or granite look.

Walk through places like Lowe's or Home Depot. They should have sample tile walls mounted above the tile secion. You will rarely see large tiles on those sample walls.

Personally, I like a 2"x2" tile or a 6"x6" tile with some borders and accent pieces and lines added here and there.

I have 12 x 12 Italian porcelain tiles on the walls in the bathtub area of my bathroom. They look fabulous! But I must tell you, if you go any larger, you might have trouble putting them up because of the weight of them. When I had mine installed, my tiler had a little trouble with the 12 x 12's because they were so heavy, but they wound up being just fine. 18 x 18 could be more problematic. Check with the place you'll be buying them for information on how to install large tiles on the walls so they don't tumble down before they dry. Good luck!

Go for it if you like the look of them. They sound stylish to me. They will make the bathroom look bigger because light will reflect off of the surface of the tiles, but get some extra tiles, more than you need, so that you have spares in the event that a tile gets damaged or cracked (weird but possible). Glad tiles are in fashion again. They are so clean-looking and easy to clean!
