The floors are light wood and there is a hunter green tile FP (which I will remodel at a later date, but have to make it work for now)
I do not want to choose colors that will look bad with the red. The FP is NOT on the accent wall(that would look like Christmas!)

I have a cardinal red accent wall & used a very light taupe for the other walls. Window sills & doors are bright white. On the accent wall I have a picture of an eagle that I got from an Alaskan artist. It has the same red in it (with a white background & black frame). I made the largest taupe wall my picture wall with everything having black frames to tie it all in.
The tiled entrance is green, coincidence! It's not near the red wall but I put a black & red patterned rug over it until I can get more tile.
Everything looks great & wasn't expensive. We get a lots of compliments from visitors.

I want to paint an accent wall red. What should I paint the remaining walls in the room?

Red Accent Wall

I recently painted an accent wall red in my living room and it looks great with the rest of the room painted in a off-white. The clean look of the white makes the room look huge while the red wall adds a touch of class and ton of character to the room. The red wall also has off-white accents which also has a clean and striking appearance. I have a light hard wood floor as well and we have the same shade of red in our furniture, drapes, and art.

For other accents colors (windows, fire place, molding, etc.), I would try to pull colors for the fabrics and other art in the room.

i think any color goes well with red. you can go to glidden.com ( it is a brand of paint) and pick colors to put on walls and furniture for some ideas. good luck with the project. i have a red accent wall and it is very dramatic. the other walls are oatmeal and the accent is jade. it does not look at all like christmas. i hesitated with the jade but it is fine.

Benjamin Moore's: hc-81 Manchester Tan, delaware putty, hc-26 monroe bisque, cable knit, hc-80 bleeker beige, hc-45 shaker beige. Basically anything with a SLIGHT green undertone is good, not too much grey because of your light floors (has to have some warmth) you can check out www.benjaminmoore.ca ,but its better to get swatches from the store (colours are not true on your monitor). Most Benjamin Moore stores are very helpful (At ours customer service is MOST important!)

With red and green (primary colors) you'll want a neutral color.
Tan, Taupe, or a creamy off-white.
