You don't need to have all your trim the same , but for rooms that open up to each other it would be the best option ( for example) Your living room and dining room are open to each other then those should be the same . your bedrooms and bathrooms could each have different color trim and even be a different type of trim for different looks.
My DS's room is a night sky blue / Parrot green trim ,DD's room is soft yellow walls / white trim, My BR white trim / Caribbean blue walls, LR/DR /K silver gray /Dover blue walls / stained wood trim ( soon to be white), my downstairs gym has Black trim / sky blue walls, Laundry room white walls / red trim ...... Lots of different looks in my house!

if your home is "open concept" it might be better to keep the trim the same. If you have seperate rooms then u can change it up.

For consistency, it should. At least in the common rooms.

No...you can have some painted,some stained....all of mine is stained..that ugly color from the 50's and I HATE IT.....

definately not. then each of your rooms can have it's own look.
