My neighbor says to use railroad ties but those might not fit with our look in the backyard. I was thinking more along the lines of some 2x6's that are pre-treated to prevent rotting. Will this affect the chemicals that enter the soil? Are they dangerous? Does anyone have any good links to help with the building and prep work for a new veggie garden?

I'm think of making four 4x4 squares for the garden. Any tips would be great.

Are there guidelines that determine when a neutral is required in 220V single phase power as opposed to the two hots and a ground? How do you know when you need a neutral? Is it purely determined by the device you are hooking up? If so, how do you know whether it needs a neutral? Example, if you bought a drill press that was 220V and has a plug on the end, how do you know whether to use a neutral without cutting the plug off?

Previous owners painted around the fireplace but didn't seem to tape off the wood mantle and there is paint all around the edge of it. How can I remove it with damaging the beautiful stain on the mantle? Wasn't really noticeable until I repainted the fireplace with another color and now the white paint they used stands out and looks horrible. How can I accomplish this without damaging anything else?

I have a 60 foot long retaining wall. Goes from 2 feet to 5 feet. At a angle where it is 5' it is leaning. I would like to tear down the blocks are rebuild it. I have blocks that are 6" x 12" x 6" deep. They have the knobs on top with the interlock grooves. I hear people suggest geogrid. how do you connect it to the blocks? Also should a person build a double wide base? Right now doesn't have much backfill except dirt. I plan to put in a foot deep backfill of rock. What kind and best methods to prevent future problems.

We had a water leak from the flat upstairs and it took the upstairs landlord 2 years to fix the problem. The water damaged our walls and now we have mould. My husband and i were hoping to paint our baby's room but we found mold on wall and skirting board, so my husband knocked out the plaster, which was sopping wet. Now we are waiting for it to dry out.

How dangerous is damp and mould to a newborn? I've only got 8 weeks untill he's born and i'm freaked out that all this water damage is going to affect him. Also i've been reading about black mould and i'm really scared. Does anyone no how we can treat our walls, or what we need to do to make it safe for the baby?

We are looking for a house (house is preferred over an apartment if we can find one) to rent in Dickson, Tennessee. A small, 1 bedroom house would be okay at this point because it will be just us and we are looking for something less than $500 a month.

We were just wondering what the best way is to find a house for rent since neither of us have ever had to look on our own before now.

Newspaper, ask around, etc.?

Thank you! :)

hey all, I planted some sunflowers from the seed (I have never done this before) and after a few days of just misting the soil in my planter pot I've already got sprouts! now it's been about 5 days and their like a inch tall... is this normal? am I going to have to transplant them into a bigger pot soon? I know it's a little early to plant them, but I planted some corriander and dill and got impatient and start the sunflowers. my dill plant just started to sprout today (yay!) oh yeah and do you think that I could continue to grow them indoors because it's still kinda cold outside?
