I painted two rooms this weekend. I used the painters tape before using the primer and the selected color that i chose. After taking the tape off i can still see the previous color from the last homeowners that did not use the tape. it is in the upper ceiling and on the base boards. how do i paint the ceiling i don't want to do the entire ceiling or do i just touch that up and as far as the base boards????

For the ceiling, you have choices: just touch up over the paint on the ceiling (you will see a difference in the ceiling color and the touch up color though), you can paint your wall color over the paint that is from the previous homeowners (this means you'll be painting where you really don't want to paint) or you can do it right and paint the whole ceiling. For the baseboards...basically the same choices. Ah, the joys of painting!

What you need to do is run a nice bead of caulk all the way around your ceiling and baseboard, this should have been done prior to painting it's part of the prep work. let it dry overnite and come back and paint your wall color just on those areas , just cut it all in again but kinda dry brush it. As far as taking baseboards off DON"T all you need is to buy the regular masking tape 2" wide and mask off the carpet, tuck it in at the baseboard this will also keep the carpet fibers and hair and any other debris from getting in your nice paint job, YOU CAN do it, take your time and good luck Les the painter

Give it a week or two and use the tape again only this time you paint the ceiling or at least the line where the walls meet the ceiling and touch it up. If it doesn't look good then paint the whole ceiling, and the rooms will really look good.

There is this stuff called goo or goo remover that will remove paint off baseboards, without damaging the stain.
For the ceiling, you can paint over the other old paint without redoing the whole thing. Just get the exact same color as your ceiling and it will blend when dry.

I'd just do touch up on the ceiling and paint the baseboards entirely, with a fresh coat.

You will need to touch up the areas and yes you can take the baseboards off.

i would just touch it up if you can see the difference you will have to do the whole celing, did you put the tape on the walls rather than the celing?? as if you did thats why you can see the colours from before, the same with the skirting boards ..
