My children got into the Vicks Vaporub and got it all over the walls. I want to paint, but don't know how to get the vicks off first.

Dawn is a very good degreaser, but this is the perfect situation for TSP or TSP substitute, which is the best degreaser I've ever used, and it doesn't make suds. After that, if there are any traces of grease you can use a stain-killing primer-sealer such as Kils or Bull's Eyeto keep the oil from affecting your paint.

You have to use a degreaser. And the best is going to be Dawn Dish soap. Use some warm water and some Dawn Dish soap then wipe it up with clean warm water. I hope this helps.

Good Luck !

TSP, trisodium phosphate.
You can buy it at a paint store or Home Depot.
You may need a primer, like Kilz, over that spot before your finish coat of paint.

I would use soap and water with DAWN dishwashing liquid. It cuts through grease really well. I'd be surprised if it didn't work. Good Luck!
