During the cold winter months, our windows sills will gradually grow mold and mildew-where does it come from? How can I prevent or get rid of? Our windows are vinyl-the mold and mildew will grow on the caulk around the windows...esp the caulk on the bottom of the window. We keep the house at about 66 degrees F---heated via LP. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Last Tuesday in class, we were doing a breathing excercise which we needed a hold a lighted candle four inches from our mouths. During the excercise my hand became unsteady and some wax fell onto my sweatshirt 'Hoodie". I tried getting the wax out with water and soap, but it did not come off. Does any one out there have a remedy to take out dried wax from a cotton sweatshirt?

with it being so cold outside i have to constantly keep my radiators going to keep me and my children warm inside but it is drying out the air in my apartment horribly to the point every body in the house needs to lubricate their noses every night or suffer a nose bleed. ive tried a humidifier and boiling water over the stove during the day to moisten the air but its not doing the trick.this seems to be a problem throughout the year. what other options do i have?

I had to pull up the carpet because we have an old dog with kidney issues (that's a whole other question!!), Anyway--our house is on a concrete slab and so my dining room floor is now a garage floor. What can I do to at least make it fairly presentable until I can really finish it (i.e. tile, wood, ceramic). I've thought about painting it--just so it's not obviously concrete--so how do I do it and what prep work needs to be done?? I know people are thinking this and "No--putting the dog down is NOT an option!"

My water pipes freeze a lot. They have frozen some 3-4 times since 2007 came in.
Well anyway, I got up this morning and and checked to make sure the water wasn't froze again. And it was fine. A few min later, my husband checked ( he was unaware that I had checked)
So anyway, approx 1 hr or so later, when our daughter got up to take her shower, the water was frozen!
Is there a logical explanation or is it just our luck?!???
This was like 7 am or so this morn.
And we did manage to thaw the pipes and it didn't take that long, but I thought the coldest part of the night was over. It was already daylight!

I'm renting now, and I've seen a few here and there. I know they like moisture and the house is clean, but sometimes i still see them. I'm moving into my own place in about 2 weeks and I don't want to transfer them there. What should I do?

I have a good well with a good pump. There are two pressure regulating tanks and a whole house chemical free water filter in-line. The water heater is 1 year old. I can't find any leaks inside or out. My pressure is set at 45 psi (pump turns on) and 60 psi (pump turns off). The problem started without any changes to the system. It seems to be worse when it rains heavily for days. That may be a stretch or excessive thinking, but I'm at a loss. Any tips or help would be appreciated.

We had some problems with possums and rats in our roof so called in the pest control people to sort it out. Two possums caught in cages and a few dead rats found in the back yard. Great, we thought, they're gone! Alas, we were wrong....a horrible smell soon invaded our bedroom...putrid!!!!

The hunt was on.....WHERE IS IT?
- It's not in the roof (no smell up there) or in the floor cavity...so has to be in the wall. But which wall?? Don't mind ripping up walls but would prefer to tear open the right one only!
- I can eliminate one wall - opened up the power sockets and had a sniff...all clear.
- Had great idea to get mini camera in wall cavities so rang a few plumbers who use them, but they say cameras won't fit.
- Even tried to get friend's dog to locate but he was not interested.

It's been six weeks and the smell abates when windows are all open, however, once closed it's revolting again, especially in the heat (hot summer in Australia). ANY IDEAS ?? thanks :)

I purchased Tony Little's microbead bed pillows. (from HSN)They're very comfortable. But I recently discovered an unusual property in them .I found that when the room was pitch dark and I manipulated the pillow I saw a few glow like sparks in the pillow.Sort of a green color.I didn't believe what I was seeing. I did it over and over to make sure I was seeing correctly. Does anyone know what this could be? Has anyone purchased these pillows?I haven't been able to get a response from HSN and can't find a contact number for Homedics, the manuafacturer.I'm only concerned about the health and safety issue with them.

it's 8 or 9 years old now.
A condensing combi.
A friend has offered me the following deal:
For £15 a month, he will cover the existing boiler for life.
Then replace when duff,
Replace after 7 years regardless on new ones.
All I pay is £15 forever!
Is it a good deal?
Also, the company is reputable / corgi etc.
