this has been in our hallway for a few months, and we've never been able to work out what it is... some sort of grinding device? somebody must recognise it!

its a chesse grinder i have one i bought one ...tahts it...for cheese...lol you can grind other stuff wiht it of course but i bought it and it said chesse grinder...yay!...lol

Its a grater, U grate cheese carrots etc, u lift up the arm put in the cheese or whatever, close the handle over and turn the graiter handle, put a bowl or plate down on table and tip graiter on its side so the graited produce falls onto plate. On some models they have different rotating devices from graiting to slicing etc.

Yes it is a grinding device I beilieve. You put something in it and crank the handle it should shred your cheese or whatever.
Im just kinda wondering why it is in your hallway?

It's a food grater. My mum had one like this when I was a kid. Things can be clamped to the side or pressed into the square bit so that they are forced onto the revoling cylider which is wound by had.

You clamp down the Parmesan cheese (or whatever cheese you want to shred) and turn the handle that is sticking out. This prevents you from cutting yourself. And why has it been in your hallway?

yes its a cheese grater..place the cheese between the flat panel and the round holed part..press together and turn the handle and the grated cheese falls out

That is an old garlic press. I had one for a long time and upgraded to a more conventional method.

Its for either fresh parm or reggiano cheese or even garlic! Its a great tool to have if your really into cooking.
