We had some problems with possums and rats in our roof so called in the pest control people to sort it out. Two possums caught in cages and a few dead rats found in the back yard. Great, we thought, they're gone! Alas, we were wrong....a horrible smell soon invaded our bedroom...putrid!!!!

The hunt was on.....WHERE IS IT?
- It's not in the roof (no smell up there) or in the floor cavity...so has to be in the wall. But which wall?? Don't mind ripping up walls but would prefer to tear open the right one only!
- I can eliminate one wall - opened up the power sockets and had a sniff...all clear.
- Had great idea to get mini camera in wall cavities so rang a few plumbers who use them, but they say cameras won't fit.
- Even tried to get friend's dog to locate but he was not interested.

It's been six weeks and the smell abates when windows are all open, however, once closed it's revolting again, especially in the heat (hot summer in Australia). ANY IDEAS ?? thanks :)

That's what happens when you use poison. I heard they get thirsty and head for water and a place to hide. Good thing your animals didn't eat them before they died. I'd try the hole drilling; with a straw for a sniffer. If that critter got in there's got to be an entrance -- that needs fixing. Look around for where the flies and bugs are congregating.

Would try drilling the small holes. Once you are close you might try a stud finder. If the varmint is close enough to the wall it just might pick it up. Would at least tell you where the studs are and how they run in wall and give you an idea where it may be after locating the general area with smell.

Have you tried drilling small holes in the walls to find the worst area of smell.
I really don't know what else to say unless you call the pest control people back and get them to investigate. or maybe the council.
Good luck.
