The addition of a humidifier sounds like a good idea.
In my home I keep 5 fish tanks/aquaria and that helps fight the dryness of the air.
I have two tanks in my bedroom and 3 in the living room.
Keeping fish would also be an entertaining hobby for the kids to watch.

Have your humidifier going and get a very small fan or fans and have it going at a very low blowing and have sitting behide it a small bowl of water..but make sure that the kids are not near it or your animals..this will help add some moister in the room..but if you got your heat up very high to keep warm..that is part of the problem it's taking everything out and keep the place very dry..I hope this helps cause thats what i did..maybe turn your heat down just a wee bit but not making it cold..

Buy another humidifier, or two or three. Make sure you get the warm mist ones, the cool mist ones do didley-squat and dealing with the filters is a pain.
Run the humidifiers day and night (at least while you are home), on their highest settings.
We had the same problem at our house until we threw away our cool mist humidifiers and replaced them with warm mist ones.

If you have the old style radiator than put a tub/pot of water on it and let the radiator accelerate the evaporation with its heat.
Otherwise a humidifier is the only other practical alternative.

depending on how big your apartment is, 1 humidifier probably isnt enough.,.... i would get one for every room {if you have small children make sure there up away from where the kids can get to it} also, as nasty as it feels, a couple squirts of plain saline nasal spray helps with keeping the nose from bleeding {i live in the carribean and am in AC all day-- i have issues with being to dry, and use saline every day}
have you talked with your apt manager? they might have some ideas for you also....
