My downstairs toilet started making a loud whining sound when I flush it. I am told the cause is "too much air". How do I fix this?
Thanks!

I was given an orchid (not sure what kind) but it had tiny 'tiger striped' flowers - they have died and the 'flower branch' is brown - do I cut that? the leaves are green so don't believe it's dead but do I trim off th dead flower stem and will it grow back? (It's a 1800 flower kinda orchid) thanks

Is there a way to tell when to change the filters in my drinking water system? Also, is is really necessary to use the bleach/water solution to clean the holding tank and filter holders, or is it good enough to just changed the filters?

We placed tile on the bathroom floor and this was our first time. We were grouting the tile and we only had a 3 foot square area to go and ran out of the white grout to go with the grey and white marble looking tiles. So I went to the store and got more grout, not until we mixed and placed the grout did we notice that it did not match, it was a shade darker. We thought it might dry lighter so we left it and we did not want to remove it. We thought going over the rest with a thin layer of the darker would fix it, but it looks worse and did not really adhere to the other grout. What can we do to fix without removing the grout? Is there a paint or bleach we can go over it with that will last?

My grass isn't just the typical yellow from the winter cold, it is dead, really dead. I added Scotts Turf Bulider (per the "specialist" at the garden store) to try and make it green. It says that I should see results in 6 days. It's been 10 and nothing at all. I want to make replanting as a last resort.

The water pressure in my house is really low. It has been fine but all of a sudden the whole house is low. I don't have a well or anything like that. I've tried cleaning out the filters in the faucets but that didn't help. Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

simply that... I have a 3.5 bar shower pump that is designed for a whole house situation I think - for the techie's is a salamander ESP 100 CPV - however i only have one thermostatic mixer that can direct (after mixing) through 15mm pipes to either a shower (not a deluge head) for to a waste filler.. Not to be confused with a mixer tap...

The City of Toronto has a downspout disconnect program in which I participated. Initially I had the water go into a rain barrel but the bend in the downspout, before the run off pipe began, would always freeze and spill water out on to the walkway between my house and my neighbours and create a scary ice patch. I finally got rid of the rain barrel thinking the diversion mechanism was slowing the water down to the extent that it would allow the water to freeze. I have had the downspout replaced with 4" aluminum downspout which has frozen and is leaking again. Toronto plumbers are not supposed to reconnect downspouts and plus mine has been made completely inaccessible because I had a drain guy fix a leak in my basement (which he maintains was a result of the downspout not being disconnected properly). I still want to keep the rainwater flowing to the lawn. How can I configure the downspout so this freezing and leaking won't happen?

My garden is not very big, but needs changing slightly so that I can still cope with it now that my health is worse, so I am replacing climbers with small to medium shrubs, also having fewer bedding plants, planting perenials instead: I need to kill of the roots of climbers, they will shoot again from the very small amount still left above ground (I know because I tried just cutting them hard back earlier) the problem is that I really need to be able to re-plant fairly quickly with shrubs in the same area, so whatever I use must be fast acting, but also become safe quickly once it has done the job.
Thank you in advance for any help and advice you can give.

I'm tired of the corporate world and I've heard the trades are hurting for people. My salary must be at least the same as I'm making now. I have two grad degrees but I'm tired of working in the cubicle farm. I've searched high and low online so if you could provide a link instead of just "insight" that would be great

When my central heater runs there is a bad smell. Sometimes even when its not running it stinks in the hallway near the heating unit. there also seems to be a smell sometimes when I run the dishwasher or washing machine.or maybe from the sink drain. I've looked through my ducts with a mirror and flash light and there are no dead mice or anything. What could be causing this? HELP!

Hi, I am looking to move my RCD box in my flat. Can anyone tell me if it needs to be a minimum height off the floor and if I am allowed to put in extensions from the lights and sockets to the RCD box.
