Nothing really works like bleach, but you can use 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide in a load of laundry to whiten and brighten. It's safe on colors. Just add it to the water and detergent before you add the clothes.
And you don't always HAVE to use bleach---you can use just detergent.

Bleach is the only thing that will have the same effect as bleach. There is color-safe bleach, but you probably don't have any of that either. You could just use more detergent.

Oxiclean is a good product to use in place of bleach.
But I'm not sure about normal stuff that you might just have laying around in your house. I don't think anything that I have here in my place could take the place of good, old-fashioned bleach.

I guess it depends on what you have around the house. Hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar may be helpful in whitening. Be sure the tub is full of water before adding a cup of both. Good luck and have a great day.

You can try adding vinegar and a bit of salt to the wash! The vinegar will help take the stains out and as long as you use a scented detergent, you shouldnt smell it after
