Seeing as land is so expensive, why don't builders dig down and add basements to new build houses in the uk. Is it becuase a) its too expensive, b) the only land left is poisonous landfill and/or floodplain, c) plain greed on the developers part?

We have a public sewer, so no worries about a drain field. We don't have a garbage disposal... will it matter?

There's got to be a website with tricks for things like this. I don't care of it leans at all and stays straight up -- so long as it doesn't flip backwards. Thanks.

Due to the temperature being so cold this last couple of days,
my pipes have frozen. I now have them unfrozen but I have a trickle of water running so hopefully I won't freeze up again. The problem is the trinkle of water is splashing a little and causing a little mildew on the side of the sink. Any idea how to remove this?

I dislike housework and especially cleaning, I need to find a way to discipline myself to schedule the work each day and get it over with.

I want to plave the whole of my garden which is small and about 45ft and the width of a normal semi. There is a small paved area near the back door already. I weant to extend it because we have 3 large dogs and they bring so much mud in, The lawn is ruined and they dig up earth from the containers. Before I start getting quotes from gardeners I would like an idea of what I might expect to pay. I live in Herts

Someone told me that if you would add vanilla flavoring to a gallon of painting before painting a room it removed the fumes. Has anyone tried this?

The house has been empty since spring wasn't planning on moving back into it thought it was going to be sold but didn't now I want to move back into this house and need to know what to do to get it running again because of the coldness. It has radiant heat and the lines were never drained. Can you give me some advice?

I live in a 2 bed modern semi, both myself and my neighbour have laminate flooring throughout our homes. Unfortunately lifestyle habits have created noise pollution for me. I have the thickest underlay, rugs & wear slippers. I don't bang doors or stomp about but they do! They'e driving me insane, they start their nonsense at 11pm until 3am, it's like they live with me! I already wear earplugs but can still hear them. I need a DIY answer to resolve the problem ie is there anything I can spray (eg loft/cavity insulation)into the floor spaces? There are 13 & 9 yr old boys running around from teatime which I fully understand and am patient about but once 11pm arrives, it just so unfair.

Hi

I have looked every where but cannot find an electric stanley knife, there must have been made by now. There are hand held electric saws with different blades (saw blades) but no stanley blade, there are handheld electric potato peelers and all sorts of electric gadgets but cannot seem to find a electric carpet knife.

I cut large amonts of carpet into different shapes using wooden stencils and my job would be a lot easier with an electric stanley knife. Have these been invented yet or is there anything else I can use ??????????????????

We want to put real wood flooring in the hallway. There is a chipboard floor underneath, sitting on joists. Presumably, I'll need some sort of underlay board. Doesn't this mean that the hallway floor will be about 3-5cm higher than the adjacent carpeted lounge floor? Is that really what's meant to happen?
