Someone told me that if you would add vanilla flavoring to a gallon of painting before painting a room it removed the fumes. Has anyone tried this?

just 2 small drops will take away the paint odor. I use it all the time when I paint a customers interior.

It works to the extent that it changes the odor. Some people like it some don't. Some paint manufactures actually do it. Personally, I would rather have the paint smell.

I have noticed recently, that there are different flavored (?) paint additives in the paint stores which are supposed to make the paint give off an odor such as roses, forest, strawberries, etc. Supposedly, you mix one packet per gallon of paint. The ladies there claim it is wonderful and lasts about a year, which should be enough time for the paint to cure. I haven't tried it but it costs considerably more than adding vanilla.

This is so strange - but I tried it and it worked! As well as properly ventilating, put a sliced onion in each corner of the room, on a saucer. Whatever the properties are, it definitely got rid of the fumes!

You still need proper ventilation when painting.
