It depends on where you live but I have seen on the news that overall Target will save you more money than Cub foods, Rainbow, and Byerlys.

I live in San Antonio, Texas. Our HEB store is usually cheaper. But you have to know your prices. Sometimes the Target will have 12 packs of soda for $1.25, cheaper than HEB.
What I like is that if I am at Target and I need to pick up one or two items of food, I will use Target as I do not have to use the extra time to go to another store to pick up the items. But a lot of items are really not that high on lot of their stuff. Now I can NEVER find 50 cent tuna at Target now. For a few items, I do not worry about the 20-50 cents I might save at another store.

It varies depending on where you live. If you live in a town with one Target store and one local grocery store, Target will probably be better. But, if you live in a town full of grocery stores such as Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Winn Dixie, and all local grocers, the local ones are more likely to have lower prices because of having to compete with the larger stores. It all depends on where you live.

I'm a Kroger shopper all the way. All stores vary depending on what it is. You save 10 cents here or 20 cents there, and I believe it all equals out with everything you buy. Why I stay with Kroger's is, because of the quality of their meat. They have GREAT sales on ALL meats all the time. We don't have to eat just hamburger. We have roasts, chicken, chops, ham, whatever. I was never able to get such a variety of meats anywhere else. I am a big saver on food. I have a family of 6 that I shop for so I have to watch my money. Check them out if you have one.

Since they are just getting into the convenience food market....partially prepared stuff, they may be keeping their prices a bit lower for awhile. Learn to read the paper, watch mailers, etc to determine where the best prices are that week. You don't do comparisons? That's what Target is counting on.

I have found that most things are cheaper at Target, but I'm a vegetarian, so I don't shop there often.

I buy Lean Cuisine there, they are only 1.97 each, cheaper than the grocery store. Also I buy my juice and milk and water there. I don't know about other stuff though.
