I have a leaking gate valve beside my heating system pump.
Anyone have any tips for changing the valve.

Would a ball valve be a more reliable replacement?

We recently caught a mouse or what i think is a mouse in our kitchen. But i want to know if this is actually a mouse or a baby rat. It was 2 inches big and brownish black. At night we hear loud scratching in the walls and in our basement there would be a lot of dead crickets lying around. I want to know if thats the work of rats or mice and if there are any signs to tell them apart.

this is for the old time plumbers....we have a real old faucet on a sink in one of the apts...when trying to replace it...it wouldn't loosen even a smidge....all nuts under the counter were removed...I even went so far as to remove all guts on topside...whacked it with hammer repeatedly but it won't budge...did they , way back in the day, sell taps attached to the sink, or attached them permanently somehow?

Both are in the kitchen, each use 2 - 40 watt tubes; one fixture however will thermally shut off after abt 5 hours of continuous use; then come back on after abt 20-30 minutes. The other rarely, almost never, thermally shuts off. Any simple way to avoid this nuisance inconvenience?

Ok, maybe a silly question, but they are an important everyday item and we use them every day. I have my own favorites and am wondering about what other people like in a toilet seat. Ex: round or elongated, plastic or wood, white or a favorite color, closed front or open front, highly contoured or not, etc. If you could have a custom made one, what would it be like, and so on. Our family used to like the soft padded ones but they don't last.
