The nose is amazingly sensitive. If your freezer is isolated and stands alone apart from your refrigerator then this problem is much less likely.

However, if your freezer is above a refrigerator section, then any of the foods you place into the refrigerator section can seep their smells into your ice. The water supply itself might be the culprit, but less likely than food odor seepage from refrigerator.

I plastic bag what I regard as the stinkiest threats or use tight sealing containers.

Food oder is the issue. Be sure all food is sealed. The oder is circulated from the refrigerator section. The main problem is that you always use the new ice . The old ice lays in the bottom of the tray. Throw out all the ice clean the tray and start over with all new ice. Throw away all the ice every 2 weeks.

We had this same problem. We tried the baking soda, we put in charcoal, we cleaned out the freezer and fridge, we replaced the filter. . . . turned out, our 8 year old was doing a "science experiment" and wanted to find out what happened to his cologne if it was in the freezer. He placed it on the ice cubes and forgot about it. The tiny bottle was crushed later when someone got ice and that bottle was skewered on one of the ice crusher blades.

We had nasty ice for quite some time until we figured this one out. Conclusion? Kids do not make for a boring life.
