We started to sand our living room ceiling to get rid of a the texture. When we started sanding, the texture began to chip away. After the texture there is still another layer that became exposed and is is the color grey and is very hard. I have seen drywall and this does not appear to be anything like that. Could it be a cement board? Any suggestions as to how to fix it? Should i do ceiling tiles and leave it? Thanks!!

It happens everytime I run the washing machine and whenever I flush the toilets. It began happening after I had a new water heater installed. Do you think there's a connection?

iwhat would be the round-about sq footage price, excluding materials, to frame a ten foot long, 8 ft high wall and standard door. Not including dry wall or door lock installation and assuming no special requirements. I'm know there's not one universal price, but what's a reasonable and fair price for a US carpenter to charge?

It often amazes me how many people want carpeting in their dwelling area, you often see "new carpeting" advertised as if this is a desirable quality to have in your indoor space.

First of all there is the carpet, a slew of toxic materials(xylene, toluene), plastics, fire-retardants, dyes, pesticides, etc...then you have this toxic mass applied to your floor with equally toxic volatile glue. Most of these compounds are highly volatile, i.e they turn to gas readily and hence once they are in an enclosed space you will inhale them for years post carpet application.

Is it any wonder why people complain of fatigue, irritability, mood disorders, allergies when we have a substance that is so biologically toxic in our living environment? It is an indisputable fact that these chemicals cause deficits in health including cancer yet I guess having that carpet is more important then you and your families health.

So the question is, why do people even WANT carpet at all in their dwellings?

I have my great grandmothers dining room table with 4 leaves, so it's huge! I can't afford to buy 14 dining room chairs, so I thought i'd buy a few different ones at auctions, yard sales, etc. If i refinish them and use matching upholstry for them will it work in my dining room? or should I save until I can buy matching?

The ceiling fan light in my dads room shorted out. He said it rained sparks and everything. I took off the light and saw a small burn mark coming from it. Went to Home Depot and bought a replacement light kit for the fan. It still doesnt work and now my dad says that the hall light and out door light on the same circuit is also not working. I am no electrician but I am sincerely trying. Bought a multimeter as well and though I dont know how to work it I am getting readings from all the circuit breakers so I am guessing it is not that. Besides, none of the breakers tripped originally. I dont know what to do next? Buy a new fan or replace the switch? My dad know less about electricity than I and at 74 is grumpy as hell. Help me fix this so I dont blow a fuse in my head. Please!

I have a Frigidaire Elite electric stove with the solid burners (not the coils). The big burner has a crack in it and will not work. Is it possible to replace that burner with a regular coil burner? If I were to get another solid burner for it, it would cost me over $150!! I would much rather spend the $20 or so and get a regular coil burner.
