soup cans for pen and pencil holders, cardboard could be used as a makeshift buliten board, cardboard boxes of all sizes work well for storage and organization, if you have a pc then you could enter info on that so it is easy to acess and store away the papers the info came from. for example put checking account info into a spreadsheet and store the actual hard copys in a box somewhere. empty pill bottles work well for storing paper clips and things like that.

Empty egg cartons can be used to separate pieces of jewelry. Empty babyhood jars can store nuts and screws. That's all I can think of off hand.Just a thought... Have you checked the dollar store and craft stores for some ideas? Craft stores often have clear plastic boxes( just the size to store shoes) on sale at 3 for $1. Not free, but extremely cheap.

Cardboard boxes! They come in all sizes, small to large. You can cut them to fit any size, kitchen drawers, under the bathroom sink, in the closet...
You can go to your local grocery market or drug store and ask them for their broken down boxes...they're free!!!
And if you don't like the "cardboard brown" color, you can go to your local WalMart and pick up some cheap, water or latex-based craft paint and go to town on decorating your free organizational boxes! Hope this was a help!

Try other rooms in your home. Do you have any muffin pans? I saw this in one of my magazines the other day. Take all your muffin pans from your kitchen, and use them as desk drawer organizers in your work desk. The muffin holes can store rubber bands, paper clips, tacks, pencils, etc, and they fit right in the drawers of your desk.
A pretty plate can be used to hold your bills.
