I'm trying to save money on the heating bill and wondering if it makes any sense to install a timer on my hot water heater so that it's not constantly heating itself during the day/night when I don't use it. Or will this just end up costing me more money because when the heater does kick in, it will have to reheat all that water from cold rather than just consistently heating it all day.

The cold water drips out in a stream, but not the hot. This is a Glacier Bay two handle kitchen faucet from Home Depot. The book talks of the aerorater.
Are there any plumbers out there.

I would want tiles to be no more than 1/2 - 3/4 in thick. I would pour them into a laminate lined mould. The under surface would be the face of the tiles. Tiles will not take much weight except those on the hearth, Can I just use cement, perhaps with fiber additive or should I stick with stone aggregate. Thanks

Kid spilled grape juice on the tile floor and now I have purple grout. Anyone know a way to take it out? Tried bleach pen with no results, along with oxyclean and a toothbrush.
Also, is there a way to seal the grout so I don't have to face this issue again?

I always thought you change it every 3-6 months. My MIL said we should change it every month.

I'm putting away my Christmas things, and I don't have much space. We don't have a basement, just an attic for storage. I can't lift the artificial tree into the attic. Do you think it's safe to store the tree in the garage? Is it safe to store the knicknacks in the attic?

I was washing a load of laundry containing towels and underwear. During the spin cycle, the washer started to wobble and get out of balance. I tried to rearrange the bath towel, but it didn't help.

So could someone share some secrets with me on how to determine which side is the heavier side, etc? When it's spinning, I can't tell which side is heavy. Besides, there are no landmarks, so there is no way to keep track of which "side" is the heavier or lighter anyway. I have a top loader. Thanks, everyone.

My house is very messy. Things are lying everywhere they are not suppose to and my kitchen's a disaster. Food are lying around everywhere and the cabinets (which are dirty) are not used at all. Was thinking of having a full time maid but we only need someone to clean the house so we were thought about part time maid too. However, we were afraid that the house is too dirty that the part time maid cant cleaned everything up. Anyone has any idea to which I should choose?

Our house was built in 1898, the smell is almost sewage smell but the septic was new in '99 and I called the septic cleaners and they said that the problem that I am having is not the septic. The smell is coming from the basement but only when the heat is on. We checked all the vents but they are clear and the gas guy said that it is not the gas. Please help!!!!

My fiance and I share a two bedroom apartment with another girl. She is very messy and will almost never help with cleaning. I've come to accept that she is probably never going to participate in any real cleaning, as I've tried many different ways. However, I want to know if there is any who has ideas of how I can convince her to at least keep things clean and not leave areas a mess.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have little bamboo plants in small glass vases that grow in plain water but after a while, I notice some moss surrounding its roots. It is unpleasant to look at so I regularly rinse them off. Should I leave them alone? Does it benefit the plant in any way?

When we tell her about things that need to be done she just doesn't answer or changes the subject. We have tried to be nice and not go to the housing authority here because we don't want to start anything. Our heat bill jumped 60 dollars between November and December. I keep it at 68 or we freeze. I have all available blankets on the beds and we wear pants, socks, slippers and jackets all day. Plus we have all hard floors to top it off. The windows all need to be checked and sealed along with all the doors. I am renting and therefore do not want to be pouring OUR money into the place. What can we do?

I live in a 3-bedroom, two bath house. The other rooms are a kitchen (which has a doorway that opens into the entryway, the laundry room, and the great room). I have a gas fireplace and a gas heater. I am extremely cold-natured. Would it be better to operate the fireplace when someone is here (and awake)? Our highs average between 30 and 50 degrees Farenheit this time of year. I try to keep the thermostat at 68-70 degrees...if it drops below 68 I'm freezing, even if I use extra sweaters and blankets.

I live in a large apartment complex and I rent a dryer from an appliance warehouse. The dryer seems to be in great condition and it gets very hot, but my clothes still take 2-4 cycles to dry, sometimes more. Even small loads won't dry in one cycle. I clean the lint trap out between cycles. I called the appliance company and they sent someone out who claimed it was the vent that needed to be cleaned. He said the dryer was in perfect condition. My apartment complex came in and said they used a leaf blower to clean the vent. It still isn't drying properly. Suggestions?
