Our 2 year old son has managed to block our downstairs toilet by dropping the "Harpic on the rim cleaner" down the toilet and flushing it in a fit of rage. Aside from why the door was unlocked at the time, any ideas for fishing it back out?
I think it's jammed in because although the toilet flushes from the cistern the water only drains slowly from the actual toilet which would indicate that somewhere in the U-bend the offending item is wedged.
Without taking the cistern off and moving the toilet from its fixings to get into it both ways does anyone have any ideas?

Old vinyl has been lifted and will be replaced with new vinyl. I'd like to remove the old adhesive which was placed directly onto timber flooring about 30 years ago

Hi ^_^

I have my apartment up for sale, and I'm having my first viewing this afternoon. In reality I should be cleaning it RIGHT NOW, as opposed to sitting here messing around on Yahoo Answers, but whatever. o_0

Do you guys have any advice as to what I can do to make the place look, smell and feel a little nicer when the prospective buyer comes over? Obviously I'm going to make sure it's neat, tidy and fresh-smelling, but is there anything else I can try?

Thanks guys!

I have a bench lathe where the speed is adjusted by moving belts on different sized pulleys. As this requires stopping the lathe and opening the access panel, I would like to be able to change the speed on the fly. I have seen variable speed control boxes that you plug a tool into then dial the speed up and down. They all state that they are not for use with slow start motors. How do I know if the motor I have is slow start? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I own a bungalow. The furnace is located at one end of the house and must force air vertically along the length of the house~60ft. When going that far by the time it reaches the other end the air is much less cooler. What optiopns do I have in getting more heat to the other end of the house ...namely my bedroom, kitchen.

I bought an old hard wood childrens school desk (and chair) that has a hole for the ink well. Could you give some advice as to what is the best polish or treatment? I don't want them to look new, but it looks like they could use some moisture. I've heard that some furniture polishes are not that good for old furniture..

I planted an acorn in an indoor pot a couple of months ago and after a couple of weeks it began to grow, at first very raplidly. Now, though, it has wilted. I have tried over and under watering it, feeding it, covering it with a bag...all to no avail. I know nothing about plants (as you may have guessed), but guess its just the wrong time of year even though it is indoors and it is going to die? Any advice would be appreciated please.

when I last used my oven, the whole cooker was very hot to touch even the knobs to turn it off was hot, then when I used it last night, the oven would not fire up, so now I cant use it, this is the second cooker that has done this this year, do you think to much gas is coming in and getting to hot that it is burning the thermastat out, or what, I find it to much of a coincedence that two cookers should fail to work in the same place, unless something is causing it, what do you think.

Planning on finishing my basement here in the near future. The only problem I see myself running into is the the whole gas/water piping. I only have maybe 6 feet of clearance from floor to lowest pipe and I was wondering how I go about getting the pipes shifted up. Is this an expensive thing to do and who do I usually hire to do such a job? What are my other options into getting more head space down in the basement? Looking for something decent maybe like half to another foot. Any feedback would be appreciated... Thank you!
