Hardwood Floors are easy to care for if you know how, so I'm glad that you asked. 1. Sweep & Vacuum often. 2. Dust mop with a Bona Hardwood Cleaner (Bona is the manufacture of the top surface of most wood floors today) 3. Every 6 to 12 months apply a coat of Bona Wood Refresher. This will cover over minor scratches and give it a shine. If done regularly it will help the floor last longer. If the years pass you may need to have your floors professionally recoated. If you do this every 3-5 years for Unfinished (or 5-10 years for Prefinished) you can avoid the need to sand the floor down.

Real hardwood flooring should never be cleaned with a wet mop, they should always be dry mopped or use an appropriate cleaner for hardwoord floors. Most of these special cleaners dry faster than water so they won't damage your floors. You didn't mention if these are new floors, unfinished floors, or waxed floors. That makes all the difference in the world. If any of those are the case your best bet in the case of new is to follow the manufacturers instructions, for unfinished - dry mop, and for waxed, well...wax them again.
Best of luck to you and happy holidays.

I have found caring for hardwood floors is relatively simple. I have real hardwood, I vacum them or dust mop in between vacums. When I wash them I damp mop them with vinegar and water.

I have hardwood floors in the kitchen. So. food spots and sticky items get stuck on the hardwood floors. i know to clean the floors with Bona. But, it seems that Bona cannot clean hardwood floors in the kitchen. I really want to mop them. Is that OK?

Do you want to clean and redo them then the products available work great but they have to be done in an open room with lots of ventilation. and its very time consuming and labor intensive, so try one small room first and decide if its really worth it to you once they are refinished and covered in a clear plastic like coating they are really easy to keep clean.
