My usual water pressure is 1.0 but I noticed today that it has risen to 1.7,does anyone one know the reason for this

That's about normal. A lot depends on how big the system is, the more water the more expansion you get so the higher the pressure will go. If it goes from 1 bar when cold to over 2 bar hot then it may be the expansion vessel that is in need of recharging.

I assume that you have a sealed system boiler such as a combi, the water pressure will rise when the boiler is on as the water in the system expands with the heat , make sure that the valves on the filler \ top up pipe are fully shut off

shut off the system and leave for a few hours then recheck the pressure when it is cold it will probably go back to 1 bar then rise again when you turn on the heat

Possibly you looked when the boiler temp was cool, anything that is heated will expand including
air,water which therefore relates to higher pressures.

no.. the pressure in ours dropped from 2.0 to 0.... we have a repair guy coming to look at it today.
