I recently rented a house that was bulit in 1994. When we turned on the gas furnace for the first time we noticed that no air flow was coming through the registars. There is a crawl space entrance in the master bedroom closet and heat was coming from there but not from any other registers in the house. When I contaced my landlord she said that all the houses in this subdivision were built without duct work and that the heat rises through the vents. I have never heard of this before. I don't know if it matters but the house is 1600 sf and is Indiana. I just wanted to know if this is true or is she trying to get out of fixing something. I have looked down in the crawl space and there are definately no ducts but with the house being fairly new I can't understand why anyone would have taken them out.... Thanks!!!!!

I am quite sick of the typical sofa which takes up a lot of my living room space. But I want to create a place where one can rest and still looks good for guests who come to my house.

I have rust colored hot water. Since it is just the hot water, I am inclined to say it has something to do with the hot water heater. Are there any physical or health issues associated with bathing or drinking it? How difficult is it to get rid of? Since I am renting, is it something that the landlord "has" to fix? I know that is a judgement call, but I guess I am looking for input on that. When I moved in, I was told it was because the hot water hadnt been used in a month and should clear out and run clean in a little while - well it has been two months, and it is still like I am bathing in dirty water. Help please.

I recently had a fluorescent fixture installed in my kitchen. It uses two 20 watt bulbs. However, it is a bit brighter than I had hoped (I just want to leave it on all the time as light to see in kitchen at night.) Is it possible to use two 15 watt bulbs instead or will that cause problems? Or could I take one of the 20 watt bulbs out and leave the other?

The problem is that tree roots keep choking the sewer pipe in the backyard. I just rented an electric snake and got some roots out. Then my son took a shower and the pipe overflowed again, so I took the snake to it a second time. The water started flowing again, but this time no roots came out. The machine does have the blades installed that are supposed to take out roots, but I have to return it first thing in the morning. Is there anything I can do to get those roots out so the pipe doesn't overflow again? I'm going to order some foaming root cleaner, but we still need to use the water for the next few days until the foaming cleaner arrives.

I have a brick fireplace and a stove archway that would be beautiful if it was not covered with white paint. Sandblasting, I was told, would damage the brick (is this correct?) and Jasco/ wire brush scrubbing is unbearably labor intensive. Any suggestions that would make this project more efficient would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

They came from old houses that were being demolished. Is there a market for these items? How would I find buyers and an estimate of how much they are worth?

The stairs have been heavily varnished and the stain has penetrated deep. The size of the steps and the proximity of the risers and the side molding make it difficult to use a power tool to sand the whole surface of the stair tread.

For Thanksgiving we had to clear out everything from the livingroom to make room for the long dining table. A couple of my houseplants were among the moved items, and were temporarily stored in the bathroom.
For some reason, when we brought the plants back out, my henna plant had developed these bumps on the stem. My mother said it's scale, but I looked online at pictures of scale and it doesn't look the same. They are kind of dark brown, raised spots in the wood, almost like seeds in appearance.
I've had the plant for about 5 months and this is the first I've seen these things.

Does anyone know what these are, and, if necessary, how to get rid of them?
