For Thanksgiving we had to clear out everything from the livingroom to make room for the long dining table. A couple of my houseplants were among the moved items, and were temporarily stored in the bathroom.
For some reason, when we brought the plants back out, my henna plant had developed these bumps on the stem. My mother said it's scale, but I looked online at pictures of scale and it doesn't look the same. They are kind of dark brown, raised spots in the wood, almost like seeds in appearance.
I've had the plant for about 5 months and this is the first I've seen these things.

Does anyone know what these are, and, if necessary, how to get rid of them?

There are over 100 different kinds of scale so the ones you saw online may not look the same. I recommend neem oil--it is a natural product taken from neem seeds. When you spray them it coats them with the oil and they suffocate. If your garden center doesn't have neem oil they might have Mite-X by Bonide. It's a mixture of oils that does the same thing.

When scale die they do not fall off. So a week or 10 days after you spray them you can remove them with a cotton ball and a solution of mild soapy water. The oil can kill the eggs too so once you have it cleaned up you should be OK.

Nice you have a henna plant ! I have always wanted to grow/have one. I would have to look more into getting one and where to find it.

But I like what College Kid said but wanted to add that if I were you I would consult the graden place where you bought your plant at just to verify everything and get some advice from them. Then try to heal the plant as naturally as possible. It's too bad we couldn't see a picture of the plant.

here is a link on how to care for your henna plant and what to watch out for:
