I wonder if it's vinegar, and not water... probably prevents tarnishing or something.

If you see, in the jewellery displays, the lights are bright & they produce heat. So to prevent the jewelleries on becoming too hot the water in the cup will evaporatate instead of the jewellereis becoming hot.

Those jewellery shops that had cups in display window, usually are those not major name shops..right.
The reason they had cups with water as they are rearing those xiao gui (small ghosts), who will entice u to walk to their display and take a look

Its not water. It's probably flouric acid. Harmless enough until it contacts glass. Such as when a display case is smashed, say in a robbery, then it goes to work dissolving the glass and releasing florine gas. It'll kill ya.
If it aint that then the clerk left their matini set and forgot about it.

in case you spot, in the rings reflects, the lights are impressive & they produce warmth. so which you would be able to ward off the jewelleries on growing to be to be too warm the water in the cup will evaporatate rather of the jewellereis growing to be to be warm.

I don't know what you are talking about, but I know that if you put a real diamond in a cup of water the diamond becomes invisible. Maybe that is what it's for.
