There are several kinds of glue out there... some good general purpose glues would be Titebond, Elmers, Gorilla, etc...

For your project, I would consider either a contact adhesive, construction adhesive, vinyl flooring glue, or even a good double sided tape. Avoid the Gorilla glue for this particular project.. its going to be too messy, because of that expansion. It IS a good strong glue... but it can be hard to clean up.

If using construction adhesive, you can buy it in a squeeze tube, or caulk gun tube. Liquid Nails is a popular brand.

Vinyl floor adhesive usually comes in cans of various sizes, and is applied with a grooved tool.

Contact adhesive comes in cans, or bottles. (Also called "rubber cement"). It can be applied with a brush, or roller, depending on the need. The trick to using this kind of glue... is to apply it to BOTH surfaces... and then wait a bit, before putting them together. Typically, you wait until the applied glue is tacky... but will not come off the surface, onto your finger. If it comes off onto your finger when you touch it... its too soon to put the pieces together.

Several folks mentioned putting a weight on the nosing to hold it in place.... thats fine for keeping it 'down'... but what about 'against' the step? I like to use "painter's tape" for projects like this.... (usually a blue colored masking tape). Tape the nosing to the step, while waiting for the glue to dry. The "painter's tape" is made to be removed easily too, with little to no tape residue left on the nosing and floor.

3M makes a very good double sided tape. Very strong, and it would be the "cleanest" method of installation.

I would seriously advise checking with the manufacturer of the rubber nosing, about the best method of installing their product. You have to be careful of mixing certain glues with various products..... anything with a 'solvent' for instance, may eat away at the rubber nosing (or any glue that has to be cleaned up with a solvent...the cleaner could do the damage).

Have Fun!

I would use construction cement and not a glue. This gorilla glue they have out now is terrible stuff. It drys and expands when it does and makes a mess.

I would recommend using a hot glue gun then. You can get a one at the dollar store now and a bag of 25 mini glue sticks

Gorilla Glue is good, but weight it down while it dries. GG expands something like 30% and makes air bubbles when drying, so if it's not weighted, the rubber piece will stick up and may ooze. Use sparingly!

Gorilla Glue is awesome - just make sure you don't put too much on - it expands as it drys.
