I tried to replace an old outlet with a new one today and I accidently put the white wire into the slot for the black wire and vice versa. I used one of those quickwire outlets. When I turned the power back on, smoke started coming out of the outlet and now all the outlets in my room and in the nest room don't work. What exactly happened and what do I do now?

I'm trying to order an stackable electric washer/dryer unit, but I'm not sure if I have the necessary outlet (needs a 30-AMP outlet, right?). I have a strange-looking outlet, that looks like a standard US Grounded outlet, but the flat holes are horizontal instead of vertical. See the diagram below (ignore the dots, they're just there to make the picture appear correctly)

What on earth is this outlet?

This tree is very large and a wonderful shade tree, so cutting it down would be a last resort. These seed balls require a tremendous amount of work keeping them raked up--in fact these balls fall 12 months out of the year. I have heard of some type of treatment to prevent their formation. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks in advance!

If you have a single handle faucet (Peerless Brand) & it is leaking at the spout where the water comes out & the set screw is stripped & cracked & you can't get it out. Do you drill the set screw out or do you buy a new faucet?

For the past several weeks we have had a lot of light flickering. Occasionally, they will go off 3-8 times in a row and stay off for a few seconds, but some back on. A few times they have gone out for an extended period of time. When they happens, I reset the main breaker and it goes back on. Not ALL the lights go out- there is a small section of the house that stays on.
This doesn't happen everyday- but somedays it will happen a lot- other days nothing will happen at all.
We have reported it to the light company five times- without any resolutions. We also had a company come out that said they could "try this or that" but they weren't sure what the problem was either.
I'm tried of resetting all the clocks and waiting for the TV's and computers to reset.
Any thoughts?
TIA!

I can get the (retro-fit) window in, secured, and sealed. The problem I have is that Lowes sold me a 1 3/4 finishing strip that goes over the sealant (on the inside). I can't figure out the best thing to use to fix (glue) the stripping to the window frame.

So what's the best to use? Caulk, glue, something else??

My parents have only one picture from their wedding, and it somehow got stuck in one spot to the glass part of the frame. The glass actually got cracked when the frame was dropped, but we can't replace it because we are afraid of tearing the picture. Does anybody know if it can be steamed off or something without being damaged? If so, where could i get this done at? THanks for your help!
