I bought a house that was built in 1958 and has a gas furnace that appears to be about three years old (I say 3 yrs because bought house as foreclosure so no one knows exactly--but it looks fairly new everyone says). I tested it and it sounds fine and the inspector before I bought it said it is fine. But the person renting the house from me claims the heater is so loud they cannot sleep. I am trying to figure out what I can do to make the heater quieter short of replacing it, since it is so new. The guy who remodeled the house for me says he also thinks the heater is good and he likes the set up as the heater is centrally located and he says the ducts are unusually large, allowing for quick heat distribution. But I am wondering if you could suggest anything we can do/look at to make the heater/distribution of air quieter? thanks.

The type of heat-pump (or cooling!) where the big unit is wall-mounted outside, and the smaller spreader is wall-mounted inside.
The big challenge seems to be the piping required between them, containing the "magical" freon-replacement liquid. [Seems to be R410A on the Panasonic-unit I'm looking at.]

I'm doing some DIY and I'm making a feature of where the fireplace used to be in the main bedroom. I'm looking for some sort of solution or paint that's fire resistant as I want to put some candles etc in the fire. Does anyone know of anything? It's only going to be a few candles so it wont be getting that hot but better to be safe than sorry. It would be to protect some plasterboard that I forgot to tile.

Me and my bf were going to get someone in professionally to clean the carpets all over our house including the 'lovely' cream one on the stairs but we have also been thinking of buying our own steam cleaner. we have seen a vax steam cleaner Model number V-082 and we are looking to buy this but first we would like to know if anyone has this or knows about this or could recommend another steam cleaner that is approx around the £100 mark.

It is the fisrt time since i have had my new windows that condensation has appeared on the inside and outside of my large window. I know that temperature changes affect how much condensation is on the window but i thought double-glazed was supposed to eliminate condensation?

We put up a bat house a year ago. There seems to be no sign of any bats stopping by. We installed it under the eave of a tall farm building, near a lake. You'd think the bats would love it there, with mosquitoes plentiful near the lake.. Any idea how to attract the bats. Location, Kentucky.

My kitten is chasing a bug on the window. It has wings, is all black, but has a really long stinger (in relation to the rest of its body). It's about 1cm in length.
I'd like to know if it's venomous to either humans or animals, as I don't want my kitty to be stung, and I'm allergic to wasp and bee stings.
