The type of heat-pump (or cooling!) where the big unit is wall-mounted outside, and the smaller spreader is wall-mounted inside.
The big challenge seems to be the piping required between them, containing the "magical" freon-replacement liquid. [Seems to be R410A on the Panasonic-unit I'm looking at.]

I own an HVAC company in TN and VA. Unless you have guages for R-410A or R-22 whichever refrigerant you are using, and have soddering skills, and electrical skills DONT DO IT. Trust me you'll screw it up. The only type of system I feel someone with little experience should even think about messing with is a package system (self-contained unit outside). You also need to know the exact size of the liquid and suction line you need and which one needs to be insulated with rubatex. Also you need to know how to hook up the electrical and need seal-tight or another equally similar type of conduit. So please just get an experience person to do this. You will probably waste your time and money if you don't. Hope this helps.

unless you have some pretty decent plumbing and electrical skills, i wouldnt attempt to install it by yourself..

you are correct about the freon.. after you get the system installed, it must be "charged"..
